The Plan Tour

A short interactive walkthrough of Plan tabs on your own board or sheet, started from the top right whenever you have one open on a Plan tab.

The Plan tour shows you around your own board, or your own spreadsheet. Like the Structured Tour, it works on the real editor rather than screenshots: it spotlights each part of your board or sheet with a highlight ring and a short explanation, without changing anything on it. It takes about a minute, and you can leave at any point.

Starting the Tour

The tour needs something to show, so it's there when you're on a Plan tab you can edit with a board or a sheet open: a Board tab, a Sheet tab, or a Plan tab holding a board or sheet. On an empty Plan tab, pick a board or a spreadsheet from Start Planning first; a Dashboard has its own tour (below).

Press Start Boards Tour or Start Sheets Tour at the top right, just after the appearance switch. On a phone the button shows only its play icon. The tour never starts on its own, and the button stays there after you've taken it, so you can press it again whenever you want another look. It isn't there on a locked tab, in an embed, or for a Participant or a Viewer.

When your tab has both a board and a sheet, the button names the one you haven't taken yet (boards first), and runs on the board or sheet you can see. Turning on Power User Mode in Settings marks them both as taken.

What It Covers

Boards

  1. Your Board: a card on its own, about your board's columns, the stages work moves through. See Boards.
  2. Add Cards: the first column's Add card button; every column ends in one.
  3. Move Work Along: dragging a card to the next column, or Shift and an arrow key. Shown on your first card; left out when the board has no cards yet.
  4. The Card Panel: everything about one piece of work, saved as you type. The tour opens your first card's panel and closes it again. See Cards.
  5. The Board Header: the widgets that count and filter the board, and a column's cog.
  6. Card Types: the colours and fields of each kind of card. See Card Types.

Spreadsheets

  1. Your Sheet: a card on its own, about your sheet, a spreadsheet in your document. See Sheets.
  2. Type Into Cells: cell A1, selecting a cell and typing, with Enter and Tab to move on.
  3. Formulas: the formula bar, which shows the selected cell's value or formula, and pointing at cells as you write one. See Sheet Functions.
  4. The Toolbar: its category switcher and the tools each category shows.
  5. Sheet Settings: the cog with the sheet's title, CSV, gridlines, sizes, freeze and named ranges.

Each step has Next, Back and Skip tour. The last card, You're ready to plan, links to the Plan tabs article (or Sheets after the Spreadsheets tour) and ends the tour with Start Planning. The steps are the same on a phone.

Dashboards

On a dashboard you can edit, the button at the top right reads Start Dashboards Tour: its rows of slots, filling a slot with Add to Slot, a slot's cog, and Dashboard Settings. Press it whenever you like; Dashboard Settings › Show Me runs the same tour.

Your Work Is Left Alone

  • The tour only points things out. It adds no cards, moves nothing, selects no cells and types nothing, so your board or sheet is exactly as you left it.
  • Nothing goes into your undo history, and nobody else in the document sees the tour.
  • It shows the board or sheet you're looking at: the one filling a Board or Sheet tab, or a maximised one. On a busy canvas it moves the view to the board or sheet first, if it's out of sight.
  • The one thing it opens is your first card's panel, which it closes again.
  • If you switch tab or the board or sheet is deleted mid-tour, it ends as skipped.

Replaying the Tour

The quickest way is the top right: press Start Boards Tour, Start Sheets Tour or Start Dashboards Tour again. Settings can start it too:

Open Settings from the editor and go to Tours.

Switch Boards Tour or Sheets Tour back on, or Plan Tours for all of them.

Close Settings. If you're on a Plan tab with a board or sheet open, the tour starts straight away; otherwise nothing happens, and the button is at the top right once you are.
